3 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups yellow lentil dal
  • 2-3 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 tbsp. cumin seeds
  • 1 big onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, mashed
  • 2-3 green chilis
  • 1 small tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • salt to taste
  • 3 small potatoes (optional)

1

Wash yellow lentil dal under running water. Put in a saucepan and add water to cover it and 2 fingers on top.

2

Add the chopped potatoes (optional), salt to taste and turmeric. Boil for about 15 min or until softened.

3

Prepare the tadka. Put olive oil, cumin and green chilis in a frying pan. Fry for 2-3 min.

Tip:

  • Tadka is technique to bring more flavours to the simple lentil dish.

4

Add the onion. Fry until golden brown.

5

Add the garlic. Fry for no more than 30 seconds.

6

Add the tomatoes. Fry until softened.

7

When the vegetables are completely ready, add them to the cooked yellow lentil. Stir.

Tip:

  • Serve the yellow lentil curry with plain rice or naan bread.

Note:

  • Just for photography purpose, I didn't mix the yellow lentil and tadka.
